Truckee Police release identity of homicide victim; suspect remains in custody without bail

“UPDATE 10/06/21: The Truckee Police Department would like to release additional information about the homicide that occurred at the Truckee Gateway Center on September 17,2021. The victim in this case has been identified as Ross Winkley (age 36).
Mr. Winkley knew the suspect prior to the stabbing. Winkley had been in the Truckee area for a short time before his death and had no ties to the Truckee-Tahoe area. The suspect, Bryan Ewry, is currently in custody at the Wayne Brown Correctional Facility on the murder charge. This is still an active investigation.

On Friday evening at approximately 7:30 p.m., Truckee Police Officers responded to a stabbing incident involving two adult males in the parking lot of the Gateway shopping center. Arriving officers located one of the subjects deceased.
An investigation resulted in Bryan Ewry, 30, of Truckee, being identified as the other involved party in the altercation.
Ewry was located nearby and was arrested and booked for murder, 187(a) pc. Ewry currently is in custody at the Nevada County Jail where he is being held without bail. The victim’s identity is being withheld pending notification to next of kin. This appears to be an isolated incident where the victim and suspect knew each other. There is no threat to the public.
