SFPD Narcotics Unit Executes Search Warrants at Haight & Sunset District Smoke Shops
SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Officers with the San Francisco Police Department’s Narcotics Unit executed search warrants at multiple retail smoke shops in recent weeks, recovering a wide array of prohibited merchandise.
The operations followed a multi-month investigation focusing on commercial establishments in the city’s Park and Sunset districts suspected of violating municipal and state sales regulations.
On Sept. 10, 2026, investigators executed a search warrant at a business situated in the 1400 block of Haight Street. Personnel seized items suspected of containing psilocybin mushrooms, kratom and 7-Hydroxymitragynine (7-OH) packets, flavored tobacco products, electronic cigarettes, nitrous oxide canisters, and glass pipes. Law enforcement noted that several of these products were openly merchandised on display shelves with listed prices.
A second warrant was served on Oct. 9, 2026, at an establishment in the 4600 block of Geary Boulevard that lacked a permit to sell tobacco. The search yielded over 400 kratom items, more than 200 flavored vapes, psilocybin goods, smoking pipes, and tobacco inventory.
The department is collaborating with the San Francisco City Attorney’s Office on ongoing enforcement. While substances such as kratom and 7-OH are not scheduled under controlled substance statutes, health officials caution that they lack regulatory approval for human consumption and often feature deceptive packaging.
According to the San Francisco Department of Public Health, a local death was recently linked to dihydro-7-hydroxymitragynine (MGM-15), a kratom-derived semi-synthetic opioid recently classified as a federal Schedule I substance.
The operations received support from the Alcohol Liaison Unit, the Department of Public Health, and the Division of Food and Drug Safety.
