Santa Cruz Highway Patrol Emphasizes Road Safety After Addressing High-Speed Infractions and Collision in Rain
SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, CA — The California Highway Patrol reported responding to multiple traffic incidents and speed violations throughout southern Santa Cruz County during recent rainfall, prompting officials to issue wet-weather safety guidelines.
Officers conducted several enforcement stops—including instances of vehicles operating at speeds in excess of 100 mph during rainy conditions—and responded to roadway collisions across the southern sector of the county. Among the incidents was a collision along Casserly Road. Highway patrol personnel confirmed that no injuries resulted from that crash.
With additional precipitation anticipated, law enforcement officials urged motorists to adapt their driving behavior to hazardous roadway conditions. Recommended precautions include reducing vehicle speeds, maintaining increased following distances behind other vehicles, allowing extra travel time, and avoiding areas with standing or flowing water.
Officers also reminded drivers to ensure both headlights and windshield wipers are engaged during stormy weather, remain fully attentive, and avoid driving while impaired.
