Drone Technology Assists SFPD in Apprehending Tenderloin Stabbing Suspect
SAN FRANCISCO, CA — A rapid response by Tenderloin Station officers and aerial assistance from a drone unit led to the arrest of a stabbing suspect in San Francisco early Wednesday morning.
At approximately 6:19 a.m. on Oct. 7, 2026, San Francisco Police officers patrolling near Jones Street and O’Farrell Street were flagged down by a victim suffering from stab wounds. Officers rendered immediate emergency medical aid on scene before paramedics transported the victim to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Witnesses and initial evidence indicated that the suspect had fled the scene along O’Farrell Street. Officers deployed a Drone First Responder (DFR), operated through SFPD’s Real Time Investigation Center (RTIC), which located the fleeing suspect near Ellis and Leavenworth streets.
When ground officers converged on the location, the suspect attempted to evade law enforcement on foot. Following a brief foot pursuit, Tenderloin officers successfully apprehended the adult male suspect without further incident and recovered a knife believed to have been used in the assault.
The suspect was transported and booked into the San Francisco County Jail on charges related to the stabbing and resisting arrest.
