Felon Arrested Following Deputy-Involved Shooting in Victorville
VICTORVILLE, CA — An investigation is underway after a traffic stop in Victorville resulted in a deputy-involved shooting and the recovery of a stolen firearm on Tuesday evening.
On Oct. 13, 2026, at approximately 8:03 p.m., deputies from the Victorville Sheriff’s Station executed a traffic stop for an observed vehicle code violation near the intersection of Seventh Street and Lacy Street. During the course of the stop, deputies attempted to detain a passenger, identified as 46-year-old Rodney James Thompson of Apple Valley. Thompson fled from the scene on foot toward a strip mall in the 15100 block of Seventh Street.
When Thompson continued to run, a deputy deployed a Taser, causing him to fall to the ground. Investigators report that Thompson then produced a handgun, leading to a deputy-involved shooting.
Deputies administered immediate medical first aid to Thompson until paramedics arrived on scene. Thompson was transported to a local hospital for medical evaluation before being cleared and booked into the High Desert Detention Center. No law enforcement personnel sustained injuries during the encounter.
Detectives with the Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division assumed control of the investigation. Officials confirmed the firearm recovered at the scene was reported stolen and noted that Thompson is a convicted felon currently out on bail from a prior arrest.
