Corona Police Utilize Real-Time Intelligence and Drones to Resolve Three Separate Violent Incidents
CORONA, CA — The Corona Police Department’s patrol officers, detectives, Real Time Information Center (RTIC), and Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) team collaborated across three separate recent enforcement operations to apprehend armed suspects and recover illegal firearms.
Department officials highlighted three distinct incidents where field personnel and technology worked in tandem:
Domestic Dispute and Unserialized Firearm Recovery: Officers responded to a report of a suspect pointing a handgun at a family member and chasing him from a home. Patrol officers, detectives, and the department’s Drone as First Responder (DFR) unit established tactical containment around the residence. When the suspect exited the location, officers took him into custody without incident. A subsequent search warrant executed at the home yielded a loaded 9mm unserialized “ghost gun.”
Shooting Investigation and ALPR Tracking: Officers dispatched to Rimpau Avenue following reports of a shooting. Investigators determined a suspect fired multiple rounds at two victims after an argument; no injuries were reported. Utilizing Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) technology alongside assistance from the Targeted Enforcement Team (PACT), officers tracked and arrested the suspect. Officers recovered the suspected firearm, which had its serial number defaced, and confirmed the suspect had an active Los Angeles County felony warrant for assault with a deadly weapon.
Armed Robbery at Smoke Shop: A suspect stole vape pens from a local smoke shop and engaged in a physical altercation with an employee before fleeing in an automobile. Technicians in the RTIC utilized ALPR alerts and drone surveillance to locate the getaway vehicle, allowing patrol officers to conduct a coordinated stop and arrest the suspect without incident.
The department noted that all three suspects were transported to the county jail for booking on respective felony charges.
