Del Norte Plaza Murder Suspect in Custody – 2 Accomplices Still at Large
EL CERRITO, CA — Jacari T. Gibson, 18, of Richmond, was arrested on a charge of murder on August 24th for a fatal shooting at
Del Norte Plaza in El Cerrito. Two additional suspects remain at large, but the getaway car used by
the three suspects has been found.
A 21-year-old man was shot on August 23, shortly before 12:30 p.m. It happened in the shopping
center parking lot, near Los Moles Beer Garden restaurant. El Cerrito officers found the victim
suffering multiple gunshot wounds, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Three suspects had fled before the police arrived at the scene. Investigators were able to identify the
getaway car with license-plate readers outside El Cerrito city limits. The car was later found
abandoned in Vallejo.
“Investigators collaborated with regional jurisdictions to identify a license plate for the suspect vehicle,”
El Cerrito police said in a prepared statement. “It proved essential in identifying the vehicle the
suspects used to flee the scene.”
One day after the shooting, Richmond police detained Gibson in their jurisdiction for El Cerrito officers
to arrest him. Gibson’s residence was subsequently searched for evidence.
Gibson was booked into the Martinez Detention Facility on suspicion of murder and robbery. He
remains in custody there ineligible for release on bond.
The investigation is ongoing and El Cerrito police are still seeking Gibson’s two accomplices. Anyone
