CAMARILLO, CA – August 1st 2026 – Three suspects have been arrested in what officials are calling an organized retail theft.
An investigation that began nearly three months ago when Ventura County Sheriff’s
Department patrol deputies responded to a theft in progress at the Camarillo Outlet
Mall has ended with the arrests of Los Angeles residents Dalma S. Saldana Nunez, 27, and Erwin Junir Shaupingahua, 28.
According to VCSD spokesman Sr. Deputy Frank W. Corona, when patrol deputies
pulled into the mall parking lot in the last week of May, 2026, , they spotted the
suspects’ vehicle and attempted a traffic stop, but the driver fled onto U.S. Highway
101 at speeds exceeding 100 mph.
During the ensuing pursuit, the suspects threw suspected stolen merchandise from the
vehicle onto the freeway. The chase continued into Thousand Oaks before deputies
called it off in the interests of public safety.
The abandoned suspect vehicle was later found in Thousand Oaks, where detectives
with the Camarillo Directed Enforcement Unit and Camarillo and Thousand Oaks
Special Enforcement Units determined the suspects were actively involved in organized
retail thefts in Ventura, Kern, Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties.
On July 23rd, detectives learned the same vehicle had returned to the Camarillo
Premium Outlets. Surveillance teams then responded and identified Nunez as the driver.
After she exited the vehicle, detectives arrested her without incident while
Shaupingahua was detained inside a nearby retail store.
The subsequent on-scene investigation and search of their vehicle uncovered approximately $4,500 in suspected stolen property,.
Nunez and Shaupingahua were taken into custody and transported to Ventura County Jail, where
they were booked on charges of organized retail theft and felony conspiracy.
