Routine Traffic Stop Leads to Large Methamphetamine Seizure near Visalia
VISALIA, CA – An officer with the California Highway Patrol conducted a traffic stop that resulted in a narcotics arrest and the recovery of a commercial quantity of illegal drugs. The drug seizure in Visalia took place after Officer T. Seaman initiated a enforcement stop on a vehicle for an observed traffic violation.
Upon making contact with the driver, the officer determined that the individual was operating the vehicle without a valid driver’s license. Due to the driver’s unlicensed status, officers arranged to have the vehicle impounded and towed from the scene in accordance with department policy.
Prior to the vehicle being towed, law enforcement personnel conducted a required inventory search of the interior and trunk. During the search, Officer Seaman discovered approximately 45 pounds of methamphetamine, nearly $1,500 in U.S. currency, and a digital weighing scale.
The driver was taken into custody without incident and booked into the local county jail on multiple felony narcotics charges, including possession and transportation of a controlled substance for sale. The case has been forwarded to the local district attorney’s office for formal filing.
