Fairfield Police Arrest Suspect in Fatal East Travis Boulevard Stabbing
FAIRFIELD, CA — “On Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at approximately 10:50 a.m., Fairfield Police officers responded to the 800 block of East Travis Boulevard following reports of an altercation in a business parking lot.
During the initial response, officers located and stopped a vehicle identified by witnesses as being associated with the incident. Officers discovered the front passenger, identified as 21-year-old Fairfield resident Nicholas Ortiz, unresponsive inside the vehicle. Officers immediately provided emergency medical care before Ortiz was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
Fairfield Police Detectives assumed the investigation. Through witness interviews, surveillance video, digital evidence, and physical evidence collected at the scene, investigators quickly identified 23-year-old Fairfield resident Royshawn Brown as a primary suspect.
A coordinated effort to locate Brown was quickly initiated. At approximately 2:00 p.m., less than three hours after officers first arrived at the scene, Brown was safely taken into custody in the 1700 block of Sunset Avenue without incident.
The rapid identification and apprehension of the suspect resulted from the coordinated efforts of patrol officers, detectives, crime scene personnel, and members of the community who immediately came forward with critical information. Their cooperation enabled officers to quickly develop probable cause, identify the suspect, and safely take him into custody.
Because of the violent nature of the crime, the reported presence of weapons, and officer safety considerations, the Fairfield Police Department’s Emergency Services Unit assisted detectives in serving a search warrant at an associated residence.
This investigation remains active, and detectives continue to pursue additional investigative leads. To protect the integrity of the investigation, no additional information is being released at this time.
The Fairfield Police Department extends its sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of Nicholas Ortiz. We also thank the witnesses who came forward and provided timely information that greatly assisted investigators during the critical early stages of this investigation.
Anyone with information regarding this incident who has not yet spoken with detectives is encouraged to contact the Fairfield Police Department Investigations Division at (707) 428-7600.”
