Basketball Coach in Custody for Allegedly Sexually Abusing a Teenage Girl
NOVATO, CA — Police arrested a basketball coach suspected of sexually abusing a teenage girl
in Novato for several months.
Charles R. Huff, a 57-year-old resident of Mill Valley, was taken into custody on July 25 at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital.
Huff became the target of a Novato police investigation after his alleged victim contacted
authorities. Investigators worked with the girl, her family, and obtained other information to
identify Huff as a suspect.
The suspect was arrested at 11:19 p.m., after being cleared for release from the hospital. The
reason why the suspect was at the hospital that night has not been disclosed.
Huff was booked into Marin County Jail the following day, July 26 at 3:33 p.m. Huff remains in
custody inside the county lockup in lieu of $250,000 bond.
The Marin County District Attorney’s Office filed charges on July 27 against Huff. His charges
include three counts of committing a lewd and lascivious act with a child. In addition, Huff is
charged with special allegations for aggravating circumstances in a position of trust.
The North Bay Basketball Academy in San Rafael has placed Huff on indefinite administrative
leave, pending the outcome the ongoing investigation. “It is our understanding that this
incident did not involve a participant in our program,” according to a prepared statement from
the academy.
