Convicted Felon Arrested Following Traffic Stop; Faces Multiple New Felony Charges
MONTEREY, CA — A Seaside man faces multiple felony charges following a traffic stop on Tuesday night, according to the Monterey Police Department.
At approximately 10:34 p.m. on July 7, 2026, a Monterey police officer stopped a vehicle in the 200 block of Montecito Avenue. Authorities identified the driver as 41-year-old Victor Gonzales Jr.
Following an initial investigation, officers arrested Gonzales Jr. for driving under the influence of a controlled substance. A subsequent search of his person led to the discovery of methamphetamine. During a search of the vehicle, police located burglary tools and a concealed silver Taurus handgun with an obliterated serial number on the front passenger seat.
Gonzales Jr. was transported and booked into the Monterey County Jail. He faces multiple charges, including possession of a concealed firearm, being a felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number, possession of a large-capacity magazine, a probation violation, driving under the influence of drugs, and possession of methamphetamine. His bail has been set at $37,500.
