Fresno County Authorities Arrest Two in Connection with 2019 Murder of Selma Man

FRESNO COUNTY, CA — Authorities in Fresno County have arrested two individuals in connection with the 2019 murder of a Selma man.

According to a press release by the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office, detectives with the Violent Criminal Apprehension Team have arrested 26-year-old Celeste Aguirre and 29-year-old Juan Cervantes Jr., both of Clovis, for the alleged murder of Jose Vasquez, 18, of Selma.

On the morning of Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2019, a school bus driver discovered Vasquez’s body along his route on East Springfield Avenue just outside of Fowler. Deputies were dispatched to the area and located Vasquez, who had died of an apparent gunshot wound, according to the sheriff’s office.

Homicide detectives ultimately identified Aguirre and Cervantes Jr. as the primary suspects and issued warrants for their arrests.
