Major Crimes Unit Arrests Suspect in Multi-City Commercial Burglary Series

SAN LUIS OBISPO, CA — On June 10, 2026, detectives with the Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit arrested 27-year-old Ryan Coats on four felony burglary charges and one count of attempted burglary.

The arrest follows an investigation into a series of commercial burglaries that began in April 2026 across multiple communities within the county, including Cambria, Cayucos, San Simeon, and Templeton. Impacted establishments identified by authorities include the San Simeon Post Office, Artifacts Gallery, McLean Jewelry, and Upscale Resale.

Detectives executed search warrants at locations in Morro Bay and San Luis Obispo, where they recovered evidence linking Coats to several of the burglaries. At the time of his apprehension, Coats was found in possession of stolen property originating from a commercial burglary that took place earlier that same day within the city of San Luis Obispo. Investigators also believe Coats is linked to multiple burglaries outside of San Luis Obispo County.

During the investigation, detectives determined that Coats was out on bail for a separate burglary investigation handled by the Morro Bay Police Department at the time of his June 10 arrest.

According to official records, Coats possesses a criminal history that includes prior felony convictions in Santa Barbara County. These prior convictions consist of possession of a stolen vehicle in 2019, assault with a deadly weapon in 2020, and grand theft in 2022.
