Coordinated Regional Operation Leads to Three Arrests in Jeep Theft Investigation
CARLSBAD, CA — Law enforcement agencies across San Diego County have reported an increase in thefts involving newer-model Jeep vehicles, with at least 12 instances reported in Carlsbad since August 2025.
Through investigative methods and the use of Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) technology, Carlsbad Police Department officers identified a suspect vehicle linked to multiple thefts. Investigators determined that the stolen vehicles were frequently driven into Mexico shortly after the thefts occurred.
On June 4, 2026, Carlsbad Police and the San Diego County Regional Auto Theft Task Force conducted a coordinated surveillance operation targeting an organized auto theft crew. During the operation, detectives identified a Jeep that had been recently stolen in San Diego.
When officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop, the driver failed to yield, leading to a vehicle pursuit. The pursuit concluded in Chula Vista after the stolen Jeep rolled over.
Three suspects were taken into custody following the incident. They were booked on charges including vehicle theft, conspiracy, felony evading, and possession of burglary tools.
Authorities emphasized that the investigation utilized regional coordination and advanced technology to target organized auto theft, and reminded members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity.
