Solana Beach Bank Robbery Suspects Arrested

Wells Fargo on Santa Helena Drive

SANTA ANA — Three people were arrested in connection with a botched bank robbery in Solana Beach on March 10.

The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department arrested Brandon Johnson, 30, Johnathan Broughton, 24, and Cheri Marinelli, 28, on charges of attempted bank robbery. No injuries were reported in connection with the incident and the bank reported that no funds were lost.

The incident occurred at 1:43 p.m. on March 10 at a Wells Fargo Bank on Santa Helena Drive in Solano Beach. Bank employees told police that the female suspect approached a bank teller and handed them a note demanding money.

When the teller stalled rather than hand over any funds, the female suspect become frustrated and left the bank. During that time, silent alarms were tripped and police arrived a few minutes later.

A witness watched the female suspect walk across the street to a Starbucks parking lot where she entered a black Chevy Impala and attempted to leave the scene.

The witness alerted police and the vehicle was pulled over. The driver of the vehicle, Johnson, fled police and was arrested after a short chase. The other two suspects were arrested without incident.

The female suspect, who was wearing a black wig during the attempted robbery, was later identified by bank employees. All three suspects were booked into the Vista Detention Facility on charges of attempted bank robbery.
