Desert Hot Springs Woman Arrested After Mistaking Police Task Force for ICE Agents

DESERT HOT SPRINGS, CA – On June 8, 2026, Desert Hot Springs Police Department (DHSPD) detectives assisted a Riverside County task force in conducting compliance checks on registered sex offenders and parolees under supervision for violent sex crimes.

During the operation, an adult female resident of Desert Hot Springs mistakenly identified the personnel as federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents. The individual drove past the location multiple times in an attempt to record the investigators. Authorities reported that the female drove her vehicle in a reckless manner, nearly striking investigators at the scene.

DHSPD detectives attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the driver failed to yield. The driver continued operating the vehicle until arriving at the Desert Hot Springs Police Department, where she was taken into custody by officers. Following the incident, the female was arrested and charged with reckless driving, driving without a valid driver’s license, and misdemeanor evading.

In a statement regarding the incident, the DHSPD clarified that the department does not participate in federal immigration enforcement. Officials added that interfering with law enforcement operations creates hazards for officers, investigators, and the public. Under state law, drivers are required to safely yield and stop when emergency lights are activated. The department stated that failure to yield and reckless driving result in criminal charges, and emphasized its commitment to conducting enforcement operations safely while protecting the community.
