Irvine Resident Arrested Following Suspicious Incident Near Newland Elementary School in Huntington Beach
HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA — “Today, June 4, 2026, the Huntington Beach Police Department (HBPD) arrested a suspect following an investigation into a suspicious incident involving children that occurred on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, during the evening near Newland Elementary School.
On Tuesday, officers responded to reports of a man driving through a neighborhood near the school and engaging in suspicious behavior involving children. As part of the investigation, HBPD released a public request for assistance in identifying the suspect and vehicle involved.
Based on information received from the community, witness interviews, and additional evidence gathered by detectives, Ivan Mendoza, a 21-year-old resident of Irvine, was identified as the suspect. Mendoza was subsequently contacted by detectives and arrested for felony child endangerment.
The HBPD would like to thank the community members who came forward with information.
