OAKLAND, CA — Multiple charges have been filed against 26-year-old Kamani J. Taylor, an
Oakland resident, accused of shooting at an occupied vehicle. Oakland police placed Taylor
under arrest a few hours after the shooting happened on May 6.
The shooting occurred in the Fitchburg neighborhood of East Oakland, southwest of
International Boulevard, near the city limits with San Leandro. It happened on 1200 block of
78th Avenue.
Allegedly, Taylor fired the shots into an occupied SUV with six persons, including children. No
injuries were reported initially. He is also accused of shooting at an unoccupied vehicle during
the same incident.
Oakland police responded to the shootings at 8:11 p.m. The investigation proceeded swiftly,
and Taylor was placed under arrest at 10:58 p.m. He was booked into Alameda County Santa
Rita Jail, pending further legal proceedings.
Taylor is charged with multiple felonies including attempted murder. He is also charged with
six counts of shooting at an occupied vehicle, and shooting at an unoccupied vehicle.
Additional charges filed against Taylor include assault with a semiautomatic firearm,
intentional discharge of a firearm, and child abuse. Plus, he is charged with two
misdemeanors for brandishing a firearm during the same incident.
Taylor has a history of contact with law enforcement. Oakland police arrested him in October
2021 for carrying a loaded concealed firearm in a vehicle. He was convicted and sentenced to
probation for this in December 2021.
Taylor also has a prior arrest in Oakland for possession of cocaine base for sale in April 2019.
He was arrested in January 2022 in Solano County for receiving a stolen motor vehicle.
