Gang Related Shooting Investigation leads to Arrest

– By F. Scott Faulkner

SANTA BARBARA, CA  — June 10, 2026  — A months-long investigation ended with the arrests of three Ventura County residents,
Jimmy Alexander Mora Jr., 18, and Jorge Angel Hurtado, 19 and a juvenile were charged with a gang shooting.

In the early morning pre-dawn hours of February 20, 2026, 29-year-old Santa Barbara
resident Luis Gerardo Terrazas was fatally shot in a Westside city park in what will turn out to be a gang-related shooting.

According to Santa Barbara Police Department spokesman Cmdr. Brian Miller,
“officers found Luis Gerardo Terrazas suffering from a gunshot wound” at about 1:30
a.m. on February 20. He was taken to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, where he later
died from his injuries.

The immediately ensuing investigation was “conducted with assistance” from the
Ventura Police Department, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department and the Santa
Barbara County District Attorney’s Office.

That investigation ultimately provided sufficient evidence for the issuance of arrest warrants for the three suspects who were
promptly contacted at their residences and taken into custody “without further incident.”
Hurtado and Mora were transported to Santa Barbara County Jail.

Hurtado was booked on charges of murder and attempted murder. He also faces special allegations accusing
him of “committing the murder for the benefit of, or in association with, the Eastside
criminal street gang.”

Mora, “reportedly a juvenile at the time of the shooting,” faces similar charges, the
range of which “will be determined by the District Attorney’s office.”

The shooting of Terrazas is suspected to have been inspired by the August 1, 2025,
stabbing death of 30-year-old Anthony Michael Bisquera Hartley on State Street in
downtown Santa Barbara, for which Terrazas faced felony charges in Ventura County.
Hurtado remains in custody at the Santa Barbara Main Jail on $3 million bail.
