Suspect Arrested in Sonora Baseball Bat Assault Incident

SONORA, CA — “On June 3, 2026 at 7:18 a.m, the Sonora Police Department received a call about a physical fight near South Stewart Street and Theall Street. Officer’s learned that the suspect, later identified as 26 year old Joseph Jennings of Sonora, had a baseball bat in his possession and was using it to strike the victim multiple times. The victim, who knew Jennings, was able to flee the scene. Officers arrived on the scene and soon located the victim with injuries on Shepherd Street near Theall Street. Jennings was later located in the wood line off of Dodge Lane and was taken into custody.

Both the victim and Jennings were transported to Adventist Health Sonora for their injuries.

Jennings was booked into the Tuolumne County Jail for felony assault with a deadly weapon.

It’s important to remember that the individuals mentioned in this report were arrested based on suspicion of the crimes with which they’ve been charged. All such charges are mere allegations, and all defendants are considered innocent until proven guilty.
