Burglars caught on surveillance by homeowners

MI WUK — At approximately 2 AM,  two suspects set off a house alarm, triggering a police response. But that wasn’t all; the homeowners had them on camera and were able to provide information to police in real-time.

With the aid of a canine unit, the thieves were instructed on how to surrender to police, to which the suspects complied.

One suspect, a 16-year-old juvenile, was taken into custody. The other, Dylan Byrum (18), was booked into County Jail with bail set at $50,000.

Both suspects were booked on charges of burglary, vandalism, possession of stolen property, and possession of burglary tools.  Stolen property recovered at the scene was linked to at least one other recent burglary from Mi Wuk Village.

Further investigation is pending on this case.
