Sonora Police Arrest 76-Year-Old Man for Alleged Assault

SONORA, CA — “On June 18, 2026, at 10:07 a.m, the Sonora Police Department received a call about a male, known to the victim, in an older model Ford Explorer that attempted to run the victim over. The victim was in the O’Reilly’s parking lot pushing a shopping cart when the victim saw the suspect, later identified as 76 year old Robert Alvarez of Sonora, accelerate toward them at a high rate of speed, causing the victim to jump out of the way to avoid being hit. A Be On The Lookout was issued to other units. At 2:30 p.m, an officer with the Sonora Police Department located Alvarez’s vehicle parked at the Tuolumne County Senior Center. Alvarez was identified by the victim, and officers placed him into custody.

Alvarez was booked into the Tuolumne County Jail for felony assault with a deadly weapon.

It’s important to remember that the individuals mentioned in this report were arrested based on suspicion of the crimes with which they’ve been charged. All such charges are mere allegations, and all defendants are considered innocent until proven guilty.”
