Del Rey Oaks Man Arrested on Domestic Disturbance and Narcotics Charges in Monterey

MONTEREY, CA – Monterey Police officers arrested a Del Rey Oaks resident on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, following a report of a domestic disturbance in the 500 block of Ramona Avenue.

Officers responded to the scene at approximately 5:17 p.m. after receiving an open 911 call with a disturbance audible in the background. Upon arrival, law enforcement found the residence empty, with the front door unlocked and a rear sliding glass door shattered. The female victim, who was located outside the residence, identified her boyfriend, James Machado, 47, as the individual involved.

The initial investigation indicated that Machado damaged the sliding glass door and took the victim’s cell phone from her hands while she was attempting to contact emergency services. Officers initiated a search for Machado but did not locate him immediately.

At approximately 8:20 p.m., officers observed Machado driving a vehicle near the area of the initial call. Investigators discovered that Machado had repeatedly contacted the victim after removing her cell phone, with call logs indicating more than 70 calls to a relative’s phone within a one-hour period. Officers also observed signs of alcohol impairment and initiated a driving under the influence investigation.

Machado was arrested and booked into the Monterey County Jail. His charges include violation of California Penal Code 211 PC (Robbery), 594(a) PC (Vandalism), 646.9(a) PC (Stalking), 591.5 PC (Damage or Destroy Wireless Communication Device), and 12022.1(b) PC (Committing a Felony While Released on Bail). He also faces charges under California Vehicle Code 23152(a) and 23152(b) for driving under the influence of alcohol and driving with a blood alcohol content of 0.08% or greater. Bail has been set at $60,000.
