Repeat DUI Offender Arrested by Modesto CHP Following Brief Vehicle Pursuit

MODESTO, CA — A repeat DUI offender was taken into custody on allegations of his fifth DUI offense after fleeing a traffic stop initiated for reckless driving at the intersection of Carpenter Road and Paradise Road.

A California Highway Patrol (CHP) officer initiated the enforcement action after observing a vehicle passing other motorists on the right-hand shoulder of the roadway at a high rate of speed. When the officer attempted to conduct the traffic stop, the driver failed to yield, prompting a short vehicle pursuit.

The driver eventually brought the vehicle to a stop and was detained by responding officers without further incident. A subsequent roadside investigation revealed that the operator was driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Additionally, a records check indicated that the individual was operating the vehicle with a suspended license and that this incident marked the suspect’s fifth driving under the influence (DUI) arrest.

The driver was transported to the county jail and booked on charges including felony evasion, driving under the influence, and driving on a suspended license. CHP officials utilized the incident to emphasize the safety risks associated with impaired driving and reminded motorists to organize designated sober drivers prior to traveling.
