Homicide Victim Located in Canal Has Been Identified as Georgiana McGhee, 50; Investigation Underway

FRESNO, CA — “On Sunday, May 10, 2026, at 11:42 PM, Southwest Policing District officers were dispatched to a canal bank near Nielsen Avenue and Hughes Avenue regarding a report of an adult female in the water. Officers arrived and immediately removed the unconscious female from the water. Officers and EMS personnel provided medical aid to the victim, but unfortunately she was pronounced deceased on scene by EMS.
An autopsy was completed by the Fresno County Coroner’s office on May 12, 2026, at which time the investigation was ruled a homicide. The female victim has been identified as Georgiana McGhee, 50 years old of Fresno.
The investigation is ongoing. Detectives are asking for help from the community who may have information related to this incident or the victim’s last known whereabouts.
