Redding Police Arrest Shooting Suspect after High-Speed Pursuit

REDDING, CA — “On April 29, 2026, at approximately 11:45 a.m., SHASCOM Dispatch received a 911 call reporting a shooting in the 2900 block of Innsbruck Drive in Redding. Officers responded and located the victim, who had sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. The victim was transported to Mercy Medical Center for treatment.

Witnesses reported seeing a primer gray Dodge Charger leaving the area immediately after the shooting. Shortly thereafter, a Redding Police Sergeant observed a vehicle matching that description driving recklessly near Old Oregon Trail and Old Alturas Road. This vehicle was also known to law enforcement from prior contacts.

With assistance from the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office newly installed Flock ALPR Camera System, Redding Police were able to confirm the vehicle had been in the area just prior to the shooting. Police later determined the vehicle had recently been sold to 46-year-old Redding resident Troy Lyons, who was identified through the investigation as the primary suspect. Lyons has an extensive criminal history spanning across three decades. His most recent prison sentence was for assault with a firearm on a person.

Surveillance footage from the area showed the Dodge Charger entering Innsbruck Drive shortly before the incident. The footage captured an interaction between the vehicle’s occupant and the victim, followed by the shooting. The vehicle then fled the scene.

At approximately 12:14 p.m., a California Highway Patrol Air Operations Unit located the vehicle. Officers from multiple agencies attempted a traffic stop; however, the driver failed to yield and fled at speeds exceeding 100 mph, driving recklessly to avoid arrest. The pursuit was monitored from the air and ultimately terminated after the vehicle was abandoned in a heavily wooded area in Shasta County. Lyons fled on foot and was not immediately located.

Given the brazen nature of the shooting in a business district, during the middle of the day, Redding Police Detectives, the Neighborhood Police Unit (NPU) and the Shasta Interagency Narcotics Task Force (SINTF) continued to utilize resources to locate Lyons. Today information was developed indicating Lyons was likely in Red Bluff, California. With assistance from the Tehama County Major Crimes Unit, Lyons was located by NPU walking in the area and taken into custody.

We would like to thank the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office, the CHP Northern Division Air Operations Unit, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife and the Tehama County Major Crimes Unit for their assistance in this investigation.

This remains an active case. Anyone with additional information about the shooting is encouraged to contact the Redding Police Department at 530-225-4200.”
