Campbell Police Arrest Suspect on Suspicion of Domestic Battery After Barricade Incident in the White Oaks Area

CAMPBELL, CA — “The Campbell Police Department has arrested a suspect following a barricade incident that occurred this morning (5/4) in the area of White Oaks, stemming from a domestic violence and robbery investigation that occurred the previous evening (5/3).

On Sunday evening, May 3rd, officers responded to a report involving a domestic disturbance between the male suspect and female who are in a dating relationship. During the incident, the suspect, identified as Andre Abeyta, 40, transient, forcibly took the victim’s cell phone as she attempted to call 911 and physically assaulted her, causing visible injuries to her face. The suspect then fled the area with the victim’s phone. Based on the investigation, a felony affidavit was issued for the suspect’s arrest.

At approximately 6:43 a.m. this morning, officers located the suspect inside a vehicle that was partially covered with a tarp. A high-risk stop was initiated, and officers issued repeated commands for the suspect to exit the vehicle. The suspect failed to comply and attempted to further conceal himself inside the vehicle, resulting in a barricaded situation.

Abeyta is known to the Campbell Police Department and has an extensive criminal history, including multiple prior arrests involving firearm possession, drug possession, and theft-related offenses. Specialized enforcement units were deployed, with additional support from the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office.

After approximately two hours of continued commands and de-escalation efforts, Abeyta exited the vehicle at approximately 8:38 a.m. and was taken into custody without further incident. The suspect was arrested for corporal injury to a spouse/cohabitant, robbery, obstruction of a communication device, resisting arrest, and drug related charges as he was also found to be in possession of methamphetamine.

‘Our officers stepped into a volatile situation and stayed composed under pressure, focused on keeping everyone safe,’ expressed Chief Gary Berg.

‘They took the time to slow things down and rely on de-escalation, which led to a safe outcome without anyone getting hurt. Domestic violence cases are some of the most serious we deal with, often happening out of sight, and we’re going to keep doing everything we can to protect victims and hold offenders accountable.’
