Mission Viejo Man Arrested for Grand Theft After Shoplifting and Foot Pursuit at Irvine Spectrum

IRVINE, CA – Officers assigned to the Irvine Spectrum apprehended a 37-year-old Mission Viejo man yesterday following a theft at Target and a subsequent foot pursuit.

The incident began when the suspect, identified as Robert Hansen Benedix, was observed removing security sensors from merchandise and concealing the items inside a backpack. Among the items taken was a portable fan. As the suspect exited the store, he was met by Spectrum officers and attempted to flee on foot.

After a short pursuit, officers detained Benedix and conducted a search of his vehicle, which resulted in the discovery of additional stolen property. Benedix was arrested and booked on charges including grand theft, identity theft, resisting arrest, and a probation violation.
