Israel Gutierres Zamora

After a little over five months, the Santa Ana PD arrested Israel Gutierres Zamora, who was connected to a fatal hit and run collision that occurred back in February.

According to the report, on February 8 around 2 a.m., Santa Ana officers responded to a reported a broadsided vehicle collision that occurred at the intersection of Bristol Street and 1st Street in Santa Ana. The vehicles were a silver 2006 Mercedes Benz E 350 sedan and a red 1999 Ford Mustang coupe.

Two adult males were in the Mercedes and after the collision, one of the men tried to run away.

According to Santa Ana police corporal, Anthony Bertanga, “He (Zamora) tried to run away but he didn’t get too far away because he had a severe injury to his leg”.

Zamora was transported to a local hospital to get treated for his injuries. While at the hospital, it was determined that Zamora’s BAC was twice the legal driving limit.

Unfortunately, the sole occupant in the Mustang was pronounced dead at the scene. He was identified as 61-year-old Mitchell Paul Viturino. Through forensic analysis, it was determined that Zamora was the driver from the collision.

“On July 20th at 10:50 a.m., Zamora was seen leaving his residence in a vehicle”, the report stated. He was arrested without incident and charged for gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and felony hit and run.

He was booked into the Santa Ana PD jail.
