California Highway Patrol Responds to DUI Collision on Oroville Dam
OROVILLE, CA — “On April 26, 2026, at approximately 2:46 PM, officers from the Oroville CHP responded to reports of a traffic crash on the Oroville Dam, where the involved driver had left the scene on foot.
Upon arrival, officers conducted a search of the area and located the driver near the south end of the dam. During contact, the driver displayed clear signs and symptoms of both drug and alcohol intoxication. The driver admitted to operating the vehicle and colliding into the concrete barriers along the east side of the roadway.
A subsequent DUI investigation and evaluation determined the driver was under the influence, and he was placed under arrest. Video evidence of the incident revealed the driver had discarded several items prior to being contacted by CHP. A search of the area led to the discovery of methamphetamine that had been thrown away.
The driver was transported and booked into the Butte County Jail on multiple charges related to DUI and narcotics offenses.
23152(a) VC – Driving under the Influence
23152(g) VC – DUI Alcohol/Drugs
11377(a) HS – Possession of Methamphetamine
135 PC – Destruction of Evidence
374(a) PC – Littering
Fortunately, no bystanders or pedestrians on the dam were injured, including the driver. The California Department of Water Resources has been notified of the damage and will coordinate repairs as soon as practical.
Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs puts everyone on the road at serious risk. Impairment slows reaction time, reduces judgment, and increases the likelihood of causing a crash that can result in severe injury or death. Choosing to drive impaired is a preventable decision with potentially life-altering consequences. Always plan ahead—use a designated driver, rideshare, or other safe alternative to ensure you and others make it home safely.”
