Major Narcotics Bust in Fresno County: Over $2.2M Worth of Methamphetamine, $254K of Fentanyl

FRESNO COUNTY, CA — The California Highway Patrol (CHP) – Central Division have announced a major narcotics bust in Fresno county following a traffic stop on northbound Interstate 5 on April 17, 2026.

According to official department reports, a CHP K9 Sergeant initiated the enforcement stop after observing multiple vehicle violations. Upon contacting the driver, the sergeant reported the odor of burnt marijuana and noted further indicators of criminal activity. Following a consensual search of the vehicle, officers discovered approximately 61 pounds of methamphetamine and 7 pounds of fentanyl powder stored within the trunk. Additionally, a loaded handgun, which was later identified as stolen, was recovered from the vehicle’s center console.

The CHP estimates the combined street value of the seized substances at over $2.4 million, with the methamphetamine valued at $2,215,520 and the fentanyl at $254,240.

The driver was taken into custody without incident and faces multiple charges, including transportation of methamphetamine, possession for sale of both controlled substances, and possession of a loaded firearm while in possession of narcotics. The investigation has been transitioned to the Fresno High Impact Investigations Team (HIIT) for further processing.
