Homicide Investigation Underway After Fatal Shooting in Nevada City
NEVADA CITY, CA — The Nevada County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO) has initiated a homicide investigation following a fatal shooting in Nevada City on April 11, 2026. Authorities received a 911 call at approximately noon reporting the incident in a remote area on Yellow Pine Way, located off Graniteville Road.
Upon arrival, deputies located one deceased adult male at the scene. The NCSO Major Crimes Unit and a forensic team from the California Department of Justice were deployed to process the area. Investigators remained on-site through the night, concluding scene processing by 6:00 p.m. on April 12.
The victim has been identified as 45-year-old Jeremy Norton of Nevada City. Law enforcement confirmed that his next-of-kin have been notified. Currently, no suspects are in custody, and the investigation remains active.
