Traffic Stop on Highway 174 Leads to Arrest of Two Suspected Meth Dealers

NEVADA COUNTY, CA  — Two Grass Valley residents were arrested on multiple drug-related charges during the early morning hours of May 2, following a traffic stop on Highway 174.

A Nevada County Sheriff’s Office deputy initiated the enforcement stop after observing a vehicle code violation. The driver was identified as Christopher John Ross, 40, and the passenger was identified as Kyle Aaron Hartman, 43. Upon approaching the vehicle, the deputy observed a white crystalline substance in plain view, establishing probable cause for a subsequent vehicle search.

The search yielded 1.6 ounces of suspected methamphetamine, 0.6 ounces of suspected fentanyl, and associated drug paraphernalia. According to the Sheriff’s Office, a standard single-use dose of methamphetamine is approximately 0.1 grams, making the seized amount equivalent to roughly 453 individual doses. Authorities noted that the quantity of methamphetamine and the high potency of the seized fentanyl indicated an intent to distribute.

Both individuals were taken into custody and booked into the Wayne Brown Correctional Facility.

Ross was booked on charges including possession of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance for sale, transportation of a controlled substance, possession/purchase for sale of a controlled substance, transport/sell of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance with two or more prior offenses, and conspiracy to commit a crime.

Hartman faces charges of possession of a controlled substance for sale, transportation of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, possession/purchase for sale of a controlled substance, transport/sell of a controlled substance, and conspiracy to commit a crime.
