Suspect Detained After Following Mother and Children to Local School

IMPERIAL, CA – A school lockdown was initiated following a reports of a pursuit involving a mother and her children. On April 10, 2026, a mother contacted law enforcement to report that an individual was following her vehicle while she was transporting her two children to school.

According to the report, the incident began as the mother was exiting her driveway. A vehicle pulled in behind her, preventing her from leaving. The driver of the vehicle exited and approached the woman while making statements regarding a child. The individual was observed to be holding an object suspected to be a knife. The mother contacted police, and the subject left the area in his vehicle.

The mother then proceeded to her children’s school, where she noted the same individual was following her. She pulled into the school premises, and arriving officers detained the subject. Upon investigation, the object previously identified as a knife was determined to be a can opener.

The subject was identified as 34-year-old Jesus Diaz, a convicted felon currently on active parole for carjacking. Diaz was taken into custody and booked into county jail on charges including false imprisonment. The school lockdown was lifted following the apprehension of the suspect.
