Arrest Made in ‘Berzerkeley’ — Naked Gunman Nabbed at Tesla Dealership
By Jim Emerson
BERKELEY,CA — A recent incident involving a naked gunman has once again reinforced the city’s “Berzerkeley” reputation, proving its uncanny ability to live up to the longtime unofficial nickname
Edward D. Teece, a 35-year-old Berkeley resident and Yale University
alumnus, faces firearms charges involving an indecent incident on April 6.
He allegedly ran into the front doors at a Tesla dealership, totally naked and brandishing a
firearm that morning. The Berkeley Police Department responded swiftly with their notable
professionalism.
Everyone became frightened when the screaming naked man burst into Tesla Service Center, 901
Gilman Street. He rushed through the front door brandishing a loaded shotgun. Panicked
customers and staff fled through a backdoor, fearing a mass-shooting might happen.
Fortunately, no shots were fired and no one was reported injured. A officer tackled and
arrested Teece at 7:20 a.m. He was booked into Alameda County Santa Rita Jail, where he
remains in custody in lieu of $175,000 bond.
It seems Teece’s destination to jail was chaotic from the start. Evidently, Teece turned his
warehouse loft residence into a shooting gallery some time earlier. Multiple shotgun blasts
were fired into the walls of his residence on the 1300 block of Eighth Street, before Teece
went outside.
Next witnesses reported seeing a naked man smashing windows of vehicles and buildings
along Eighth Street. Berkeley police were already en route, when more urgent reports
followed about a dangerous situation emerging at Tesla.
When the police arrived, Teece armed and screaming reportedly charged at an officer, before
he was restrained. A gun violence restraining order was immediately obtained by Berkeley
police, prohibiting Teece from possessing a firearm, considering his mental state.
The victims police encountered at Tesla were described as “visibly shaken” because this
seemingly mentally unstable man pointed a shotgun at them.
On April 7 the following charges were filed against Teece:
· Two counts of assault with a firearm
· One count of discharge of a firearm with gross negligence
