HEMET, CA — On Wednesday, March 25, 2026, the Hemet Police Department’s Organized Retail Theft (ORT) Team, assisted by the Southwest Cities SWAT, executed a search warrant at a residence in the 300 block of South Gilbert Street. The action followed an investigation into the theft of merchandise from local retailers, specifically focusing on the loss of high-value LEGO sets.
Through a collaborative effort with local businesses, detectives gathered information regarding a suspect allegedly selling stolen items at a local swap meet. The investigation indicated an organized retail theft operation in which an individual was purchasing stolen goods from various sources to resell for profit. During the execution of the search warrant, investigators recovered approximately $10,000 in stolen merchandise.
Hugo Omar Sanchez-Sanchez, 37, was arrested at the scene. He was subsequently booked into the Riverside County Jail on felony charges, including Possession of Stolen Property and Organized Retail Theft. Chief Michael Arellano stated that the operation was intended to hold offenders accountable and reduce the financial impact of such crimes on the business community.
