ROSEVILLE, CA — April 7th 2026 — “Early this morning, Tuesday, April 7, a traffic stop led to the discovery of an active pipe bomb and the arrest of a 32-year-old man.
A Placer County Sheriff’s deputy initiated the stop in the commercial area near Industrial Avenue, just outside of Roseville. The deputy immediately noticed a suspicious metal pipe with end caps and a fuse sitting on the vehicle’s center console.
The driver and passenger were detained and safely removed from the immediate area. The Placer County Sheriff’s Office Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team was called to the area. Once on scene, EOD personnel conducted an x-ray and safely retrieved the device.
The device was determined to be an active pipe bomb.
A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the discovery of suspected methamphetamine.
Records checks also revealed the driver had multiple outstanding felony and misdemeanor warrants.
The suspect, identified as 32-year-old Jacob Vanwagoner, was arrested and booked into the South Placer Jail on multiple charges, including possession of a destructive device, possession of a controlled substance, and his outstanding warrants. His bail was set at $590,000.
