UKIAH, CA — “On 4/1/2026 at approximately 11:07 P.M., a Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office Deputy was dispatched to the 1400 block of Lovers Lane in Ukiah California for a report of a disturbance.
Upon arrival, the Sheriff’s Deputy learned that a male subject was seen behind the business causing a disturbance. During the investigation, the Deputy located evidence of a recently ignited fire near an electrical box and reviewed surveillance footage from the business.
The footage showed an adult male gathering combustible materials, igniting a fire, and adding materials to the flames before leaving the area on a bicycle while the fire remained burning. The fire was set in close proximity to a commercial structure and electrical equipment, creating a potential risk to property and public safety, however the fire was out prior to the Deputy’s arrival at scene.
During the investigation, the suspect was identified as Shane King, a 40-year-old male from Ukiah, CA. Based on the totality of the circumstances, the Deputy determined the fire was willfully and maliciously ignited establishing probable cause that King violated California Penal Code sections 451(d) (Arson) and 647(h) (Prowling). Additionally, King was determined to be in violation of the court ordered terms of his pretrial release in a separate case involving fire-related activity.
On 4/02/2026, at approximately 10:20 A.M., Sheriff’s Deputies located King in the 1400 block of North State Street in Ukiah and placed him under arrest for the above investigation without incident. During the arrest, King made a spontaneous statement indicating possible involvement in the incident. A lighter believed to be associated with the arson was recovered during the arrest.
King was transported to the Mendocino County Jail, where he was booked on charges of Arson (451(d) PC), Prowling (647(h) PC), and Violation of a Court Order (166(a)(4) PC).
King was also found to have two outstanding warrants issued in Mendocino County for Failure to Appear (1320(a) PC), as well as two additional warrants out of Sacramento County for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (11364 HS) and Trespassing with Intent to Interfere with a Business or Injure Property (602(k) PC).
King was booked and lodged at the Mendocino County Jail where he is being held in lieu of $65,000 bail.
