Mendocino County man arrested on outstanding warrant following strange incident

A Mendocino County man was recently arrested on an outstanding warrant following a strange incident in late May.

On the night of May 26, deputies responded to a business on the 200 block of Branscomb Road in Laytonville, where multiple callers had reported seeing a man with a knife, covered in blood, standing on the roof and asking for help, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies and fire personnel both responded to the scene, and the man was being treated by fire personnel by the time deputies arrived, the Sheriff’s Office said.

The man reportedly told officers that he had been assaulted, but didn’t want to get anyone in trouble. Nonetheless, deputies discovered he had a felony no-bail warrant out for his arrest.

After being medically treated, the man, identified as 31-year-old James Simmons, was ultimately taken into custody on the outstanding warrant.
