HOLLISTER, CA — Hollister Police Animal Care and Services has arrested a 20-year-old male on felony animal cruelty charges following an investigation in San Benito County. The arrest of Kade Lester occurred after authorities responded to a report involving two dogs located within a trailer in the 400 block of Briggs Road on March 4, 2026.
According to official reports, Animal Control Officers were dispatched to the location after a cleaning crew discovered a Cane Corso type dog and a Pitbull type dog inside the residence. A reporting party stated that an eviction notice had been served to the occupants of the trailer two days prior to the discovery. The animals were found in a bathroom measuring approximately five feet by four feet. Officials noted the area was covered in urine and feces, and the dogs lacked access to food or water.
Following their removal from the property, both dogs were transported to a local veterinary office for medical evaluation. The treating veterinarian determined the physical condition and body weight of the animals indicated they had likely been without food for more than 48 hours. Both animals were prescribed medication and placed on a managed feeding plan to address malnutrition.
The dogs are currently being monitored at the Hollister Animal Shelter. Authorities reminded the public that depriving an animal of necessary food, water, and care is a felony under California Penal Code 597.
