HOLLISTER — Two would-be robbers are in jail after an alert resident knocked the pair off a backyard fence and right into the arms of arriving Hollister Police Officers.

Last Thursday at around 9:30 AM, Hollister Police received a call from a frantic resident on the 500 block of South Street. She said she was hiding in the back of her house in a locked bedroom because two men had broken in through a window and were ransacking the place as she spoke.

Police arrived and chased the suspects from the house toward the backyard fence, where the two attempted to jump over. One of the victim’s family members, who’d also been called, spotted the two burglars trying to jump the fence and pushed them back over.

One of the suspects, 19-year-old Christian Leonor-Zambrano, was treated for lacerations before being transferred to San Benito County Jail on charges of burglary and possession of burglary tools. The second suspect, a 16-year-old juvenile, was booked on the same charges.
