MONTEREY, CA – The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office has detained a 31-year-old man following a series of reported residential entries in Pajaro on Saturday, March 7, 2026. Deputies responded to a call regarding a residential burglary in progress along the 20 block of Brooklyn Street shortly before 9:00 AM.
According to law enforcement, Aniketh Kumar of Seaside entered the residence through an open door and proceeded into a bedroom occupied by two children, ages 6 and 9. Reports indicate that Kumar began mumbling and started to remove his pants. The occupants of the room began to scream, alerting family members elsewhere in the house. Family members responded to the bedroom and attempted to remove Kumar, who reportedly resisted their efforts. The family succeeded in moving him outside the residence, where they held him until deputies arrived on the scene.
Subsequent investigations by the Sheriff’s Office revealed that Kumar had allegedly entered another nearby apartment immediately prior to the incident on Brooklyn Street. In that instance, the occupants of the apartment confronted Kumar and stated they were contacting the authorities, at which point he fled the premises.
Kumar was transported to a local hospital for the treatment of injuries sustained before his contact with law enforcement. The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the children and family members involved in the incident were unharmed.
