Felon Carrying a Loaded Pistol Arrested at a BART Parking Garage

OAKLAND, CA— A felon carrying a loaded pistol was arrested earlier this month at a BART
parking garage.

Jobie Morton, 32, of Oakland, remains in custody on a no-bond hold, pending
a court hearing on March 19.

BART officers arrested Morton on March 5 at 5:50 a.m. in Oakland. He was taken into
custody at the Fruitvale Village Parking Garage, adjacent to the Fruitvale BART Station,
following a report of suspicious activity.

A BART patron used the BART Watch app to report a suspicious man peering inside vehicles
parked at the garage. Responding officers found Morton in possession of a Glock pistol,
which was reported stolen in Fremont, and other incriminating evidence.

At the time of his arrest, Morton also had in his possession illicit drugs, and burglar’s tools.
Multiple charges filed on March 9 against Morton include –

· Possession of a controlled substance with a firearm
· Possession of a controlled substance
· Possession of ammunition by a prohibited person
· First-degree residential burglary

At the time of his most recent arrest, Morton was on probation for a 2025 conviction for
unlawful driving/taking a vehicle. In addition, has has prior convictions for burglaries, firearm
possession, identity theft, and possession of controlled substances.

Morton has a lengthy arrest history involving property crimes and weapons violations. He has
been arrested 21 times since April 2016.
