SANTA MARIA, CA  — March 10, 2026

A confrontation between two drivers escalated into a chain-reaction crash on the morning of
March 8 at a busy downtown Santa Maria intersection, leaving several vehicles damaged and
one person injured.

According to Santa Maria Police Department spokesman Lt. Todd Logan, at 11:30 a.m. SMPD
officers responded to reports of “an injury collision and arrived to find multiple damaged
vehicles” scattered throughout the intersection.

Investigators soon determined the crash began when a pickup truck rear-ended a vehicle that had
stopped while traveling northbound on local thoroughfare. At that point, the drivers “confronted
each other following the initial impact.”

Things only went downhill from there.

“Following the confrontation between the drivers, the pickup truck struck the lead vehicle
multiple additional times, pushing it into the intersection,” Logan reported.

At that point, the pickup truck then sped through the intersection and collided with a vehicle and
pushed that vehicle into a fourth car, resulting in a multi-vehicle pileup.

Emergency medical personnel responded to the scene. One driver was transported by ambulance
to Marian Regional Medical Center with “non-life-threatening injuries.”

The driver suspected of causing the crashes fled before officers arrived, but was tracked down
later in the day and identified as Lompoc resident Ronen Lee Andersen, 45. Andersen was taken
into custody on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and felony hit and run.

He was booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail, with bail set at $50,000.
