Homemade Fireworks & Explosives Found in Probationer’s Vehicle

“Just after 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 4, the Placer County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by Placer County Probation regarding a probationer who was believed to be in possession of illegal fireworks.

Members of the Sheriff’s Office Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team responded to assist and conducted a search of a vehicle belonging to 55-year-old Stephen Williams. The vehicle was parked across the street from the Placer County Sheriff’s Office in Auburn.

During the search, the EOD team located several homemade fireworks along with modified commercial fireworks inside the vehicle. Deputies also located body armor plates, miscellaneous tactical gear, and two partially filled gasoline cans in the trunk.

Detectives subsequently obtained and served a search warrant at Williams’ residence. During the search of the home, investigators located and seized additional explosive devices similar to those found in the vehicle.

Williams was arrested and booked into the Auburn Jail on multiple charges, including PC 18710(a) Possession of a Destructive Device, a felony. He is currently being held without bail.”
