Mountain View Police Arrest Two Individuals, Recover Over 1,500 Pieces of Stolen Mail

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA — “Detectives recovered more than 1,500 pieces of stolen mail following a months-long investigation. Over the past two months, the Mountain View Police Department’s Crime Suppression Unit (CSU) Detectives have been investigating a mail theft case that occurred in the 500 block of W. Middlefield Road in Mountain View.

During the investigation, CSU detectives worked in coordination with patrol officers to develop actionable leads. Subsequent follow-up by CSU detectives resulted in the identification of two suspects.

A few weeks later, the Mountain View Police night-shift patrol team located the suspects back in Mountain View and quickly took both suspects into custody.

On Jan. 16, CSU detectives executed multiple search warrants in the Bay Area. During the search warrant execution, detectives recovered more than 1,500 pieces of stolen mail, including items belonging to over 1,000 addresses in Mountain View and neighboring cities. Additionally, detectives recovered tools and equipment used to manufacture fraudulent identification cards.

Terri Maciel, a 47-year-old San Jose resident, was booked the following charges: PC 530.5(a)- Identity Theft, PC 530.5(c)(2) – Possession of identifying information with the intent to defraud, PC 530.5(c)(3) – Possession of identifying information with the intent to defraud of 10 or more persons, PC 530.5(e) – Possession of identifying information with the intent to defraud of 10 or more persons, PC 182(a)(1) – Criminal Conspiracy,  PC 470(b) – Forgery, PC 529 – False Impersonation, PC 532 – Theft by false pretenses, PC 484(f) – Counterfeit access card, PC 459 – Burglary, PC 537 – Defrauding an Innkeeper, PC 496(a) – Possession of stolen property, PC 466 – Possession of burglary tools, PC 666.1 (a)(2)(j) -Identity theft and Mail theft with a prior conviction. She was additionally charged VC 4463 – Forging or falsifying vehicle registration, H&S 11395(b)(1) – Possession of a controlled substance with a prior, H&S 11364(a) – Possession of drug paraphernalia, and an outstanding warrant from the South San Francisco Police Department.

Ruben Maciel, a 34-year-old San Jose resident, was booked on the following charges; PC 530.5(a) – Identity Theft, PC 530.5(c)(2) – Possession of identifying information with the intent to defraud, PC 530.5(c)(3) – Possession of identifying information with the intent to defraud of 10 or more persons, PC 530.5(e) – Mail theft, PC 182(a)(1) – Criminal conspiracy, PC 470(b) – Forgery, PC 529 – False impersonation, PC 532- Theft by false pretenses, PC 484(f) – Counterfeit access card, PC 459 – Burglary, PC 537- Defrauding an Innkeeper, PC 496(a) – Possession of stolen property, PC 466 – Possession of burglary tools, PC 666.1(b)(2)(j) – Identity theft and Mail theft with a prior conviction. He was additionally charged with altered or fraudulent vehicle documentation, possession of a controlled substance, and a parole violation, VC 4463 – Forging or falsifying vehicle registration, H&S 11377(a) – Possession of a controlled substance, H&S 11364(a) – Possession of drug paraphernalia, and PC 3056 – parole violation.”
