WOODLAND, CA — Woodland police officers arrested a 31-year-old resident, identified as Angel Contrares Alvarez, following a three-vehicle collision on East Gum Avenue. The incident occurred when a vehicle driven by Contrares Alvarez rear-ended a stopped vehicle, which subsequently moved forward and struck a third vehicle positioned in the roadway.
According to department reports, the first stopped vehicle sustained major damage, while the third vehicle sustained minor damage. No injuries were reported following the collision. Upon arrival at the scene, responding officers observed that Contrares Alvarez displayed signs of intoxication. Following the administration of field sobriety tests, he was taken into custody.
Investigation revealed that Contrares Alvarez was operating the vehicle with a blood alcohol level over double the legal limit. Additionally, authorities determined he was driving on a license that had been suspended for previous DUI-related charges.
Contrares Alvarez was transported to the Yolo County Jail and booked on charges including driving while intoxicated and driving on a suspended license. Law enforcement officials noted that the incident impacted two other drivers who were following traffic laws at the time of the collision. The department continues to advise the public to utilize ride-sharing services, walking, or designated drivers as alternatives to operating a vehicle while impaired.
