Eagle-Eyed Patrol Officer Disrupts Drug Sales Operation in Roseville

ROSEVILLE, CA — FEBRUARY 24TH 2026

“On February 10, a patrol officer recognized a vehicle belonging to a subject on probation for drug sales and contact the probationer after he parked at a business on Harding Boulevard.

A probation search led to the discovery of approximately one ounce of methamphetamine and a room key to a nearby hotel.

In an effort to provide full service, Officers followed up with a probation search of the hotel room, where they contacted a female inside and uncovered a drug sales operation. Detectives located individual packaging stations and seized:

• Over ½ pound of methamphetamine
• $2,000 in cash
• Small plastic baggies
• Multiple digital scales

Craig Hutchins, 68, was arrested for:
• Possession of Methamphetamine for Sale (H&S 11378)
• Transportation of Methamphetamine for Sale (H&S 11379(a))
• Possession of Marijuana for Sale (H&S 11359(b))
• Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (H&S 11364(a))

Carol Smith, 63, was arrested for:
• Possession of Methamphetamine for Sale (H&S 11378)
• Operating or Maintaining a Drug House (H&S 11366)
• Possession of Marijuana for Sale (H&S 11359(b))
• Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (H&S 11364(a))
Both were booked into the South Placer County Jail.
This case highlights the proactive efforts our patrol officers make to take drugs off the street.”
