SANTA BARBARA, CA — A stabbing at Santa Barbara City College last week set off an investigation that culminated with
the arrest of two teens following a police pursuit in Ventura.
According to Santa Barbara Police Department spokesman Sgt. Bryan Kerr, the incident began
around 4:48 p.m. on February 18 near the college’s East Campus, where “a verbal dispute
among three males” escalated into violence.
One of the men was stabbed during the altercation,
suffering “non-life-threatening lacerations.”
The suspects fled before officers arrived.
As detectives worked to identify those involved, the case broke open on February 23 when
Ventura police detained two suspects during a stolen-vehicle investigation that turned into a
pursuit and a temporary lockdown at Ventura High School.
Santa Barbara police soon linked the Ventura arrests to the campus stabbing.
“The two guys arrested in Ventura were also involved in the assault with the deadly weapon at Santa Barbara
City College,” officials said.
Bryan Isaac Ramirez, 18, of Santa Barbara, was booked into Ventura County Jail on suspicion of
felony assault with a deadly weapon and conspiracy related to the SBCC case, with his bail set at
$250,000.
The other suspect, a 17-year-old male from Santa Barbara County, was booked into
Santa Barbara County Juvenile Hall on similar charges.
